コロナウィルス関連の英語表現
例文－①
Japan is set to extend its nation-wide state of emergency for the coronavirus pandemic by nearly a month until the end of May.
訳：日本政府は新型新型コロナウイルスによる緊急事態宣言を、全国一律で5月末まで延期することを決定した。
"be set to" は「～の予定である」・「～するように決めている」という意味の熟語です。
「緊急事態宣言」は "state of emergencey" といいます。
「宣言する・示す」という意味の ”declare” を用いて、
例文 ⇒ Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has declared a nationwide state of emergency.
例文－②
They agreed to extend the state of emergency on the ground that the medial systems remain under strain despite the downturn in the daily number of newly confirmed infections.
訳：1日の新規感染者数は減少傾向に転じたものの、逼迫した医療現場の状況を考慮し、緊急事態宣言の延長について同意した。
"on the ground that ～" は「～を理由に」という意味の熟語です。
that 以下には、理由に当たる文を置くことができます。
名詞が来る場合は "of" を用いて、"on the ground of 名詞" となりす。
例文－③
Two ministers heard the opinions of a panel of expert on the extension schedule.
訳：両大臣は緊急事態宣言の延長について専門家委員会から意見聴取を行った。
「専門家委員会」は "panel of expert" と訳します。
”panel” には、「ある問題について調査したり、意思決定したりするために集められた比較的小規模なグループ」を意味します。
例文－④
Meanwhile, other prefectures are likely to be allowed to partially ease their request for limited activities by people and businesses.
訳：その他の県については、部分的に社会経済活動の自粛要請を緩和していく見通しだ。
"be likely to" は「～する可能性が高い」・「～しそうだ」という意味になります。
"allow" は「許す、許可する」という意味の動詞です。
"allow 人 to ～" で「人に～することを許可する」という意味で使われます。
上の例文を能動態にすると、
例文 ⇒ The government has allowed other prefectures to partially ease their request for limited activities by people and businesses.
"ease" には「緩和する、和らげる」という意味があります。
また、同じく「緩和する、ゆるめる」という意味の、"relax" を使う場合もあります。
例文 ⇒ South Korean government has announced it would relax its social distancing rules.
例文－⑤
Mosques in Iran will be allowed to reopen from Monday in areas where no coronavirus cases have been confirmed recently and the risk of infection is low.
訳：イランは、コロナウイルスの感染者が確認されておらず、感染リスクが低い地域のモスクにおいて、月曜日から礼拝を再開する予定だ。
"confirm" は「確認する・確かめる」という意味の動詞です。
「感染リスク」は 「感染・伝染」の意味の "infection" を用いて、”risk of infection” と言います。
例文－⑥
There is growing concern that opening mosques could lead to a resurgence in infections.
訳：モスクでの礼拝再開が、感染の再流行につながることを懸念している。
「感染の再流行」は「再起・再燃」という意味の "resurgence" を用いて、"resurgence in infections" と訳します。
例文－⑦
Some Asian countries are allowing businesses to open as the number of new infection cases seems to be leveling off.
訳：アジアの国々では、新規感染者の数が横ばいになっていることから、経済活動の再開を許可し始めている。
"level off" は、「横ばいになる、安定した状態になる」という意味の熟語です。
例文－⑧
Shaving is prohibited because of the risk of infection through close contact.
訳：濃厚接触による感染リスクを避けるため、ひげそりは禁止されている。
「濃厚接触」は "close contact" と訳されていました。
