「DVDプレーヤー」に関する英語表現
本記事では、アメリカのDVDプレーヤーに関連して、使い方や注意事項の英語表現を紹介します。
DVDプレーヤーなどの家電を「雨にさらす」と言いたい場合は、
例文 ⇒ To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose this apparatus to rain or moisture.
訳：火災や感電のリスクを下げるため、機器を雨や湿気にさらさないで下さい。
のように表現できます。
そのほか "expose" は、「公表する、暴露する」などの意味もあります。
"My job as a journalist is to expose the truth."

雷雨や長期間使用しないときは、機器のコンセントを抜いてください。
▶ Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods of time.
"apparatus" は「機器、装置」という意味で使わます。
また「雷を伴った嵐」や「雷雨」のことを "lightning storm(s)" や "thunderstorm(s)" と言います。
一方、雷を伴わない「通り雨」のことは "shower" と言ったりします。
「長期間」は "for long periods of time" です。
あわせて、"extended periods of time" も「長期間」や「延長期間」という意味でよく使われます。
テレビに言語（選択）画面が表示されます。
▶ "Language" screen will be displayed on the TV.
「表示する、画面などに写す」は "display" が使われます。
もちろんパソコンなどの、「ディスプレイ」という名詞としても使えます。
（リモコンに）電池を2つ入れて下さい。
▶ Insert two batteries.
「リモコンに電池を入れる」は、"insert" を使って "insert two batteries" などの表現をよく見かけます。
なお古くなった電池を「取り替える」という意味では、別記事⇩でも紹介した "replace" がよく使われています。
ディスクを取り出して下さい。
▶ Eject the disc.
「取り出す」には "eject" がよく使われます。
そのほか "eject" には「場所や地位を追い出す、追い払う」という意味もあります。
逆に「ディスクを入れる」は、"insert" を用いて "insert the disc" となります。
機器が作動しなくなった場合でも、ご自身で修理しないでください。
▶ If this unit becomes inoperative, do not try to correct the problem by yourself.
「作動しない、動かない」は "inoperative" を使います。
"in-" は 以前紹介した "prefix（接頭辞）" で "not" を意味します。
そのほか、"inactive" や "insecure" なども "prefix" "in-" が用いられた単語です。

エアダスターは使用しないで下さい。機器内に残った空気が発火し爆発する可能性があります。
▶ Never use a gas duster on this unit. The gas trapped inside of this unit may cause ignition and explosion.
「エアダスター」はそのまま "air duster" とも言いますが、"gas duster" と言うこともよくあります。
"ignition" は "ignite" の名詞形で「発火、着火」という意味になります。
通風口を塞がないで下さい。
▶ Do not block any ventilation openings.
「通風口」は "ventilation opening(s)" などと言います。
"ventilation" は "ventilate" の名詞形で「風通し、換気」などの意味があります。
"ventilate" は動詞として「風通しをよくする、換気する」などのように使えます。
ventilate："to allow fresh air to enter and move around a room, building, etc."
